Stained glass is an art form that is given life by the energy and dynamics of light. In its simplest form, a stained glass window is composed of a variety of glass pieces held together by "cames," usually made of lead. The process for creating these decorative panels has remained relatively unchanged since the craft was developed in the Middle Ages.
While the Studio is steeped in the history of stained glass, each craftsperson is familiar with the latest techniques and materials necessary to design, create and conserve exemplary glass.
In addition to leaded glass, the Studio executes etched and faceted (dalle de verre) glass. The Studio was the first to introduce faceted glass to the United States and patented the creation of Leptat (etched) glass.
Stained glass conservation projects completed by Conrad Schmitt Studios have a life expectancy of 100 years or more and the Studio's new projects will last well into the twenty-first century. For guidance in planning your project, please take advantage of our step-by-step Printable Project Guide.
